VISUAL ARTIST SALMA ARASTU AND PERFORMANCE ARTIST NAINA SHASTRI
Collaborate on a performance that combines classical Indian dance, poetry, and video projection. They are coming together to present our search for the eternal love through universal poetry of Mewlana Rumi, a 13th-century Persian] poet and Sufi mystic and Meera Bai, a 16th-century Hindu mystic poet and devotee of Krishna. Two spiritual saints belonging to different religious faith and different times and different geographical locations and spoke of finding salvation in love.
We used the medium of poetry recitation, image and video projection, visual art, and interpretative performance through the medium of South Indian Classical dance form, Bharatanatyam. The performance was supported by live music accompaniment.
We presented this multi media performance several times in San Francisco and the Bay area that included California Institute of Integral Studies, San Francisco, Berkeley Art Center, Oakland Asian Cultural Center and Arc gallery in San Francisco.
